The Date Night Dress Frocktober Challenge

date night

This was my first time using an April Rhodes pattern and certainly won’t be my last. After completing the Date Night Dress this weekend, I had the following observations:

  • Only 3 pattern pieces
  • Full pictures
  • Clear instructions
  • Flattering fit

  • Suggests shirring but does not provide a tutorial (I found a good one here)
  • Did not include a step for staystitching the neckline which did stretch out.

More details can be found on my blog.
Next up for the November “From a Sewing Book” challenge will be either Colette’s Pastille or Truffle!

    • Yes very comfy. When I first made tried the dress on it was like wearing a nightgown (maybe a little too much!) so I added shirring to the back to pull the waist in some. This was the first time I had tried shirring but I really liked how easy it was and NO zippers!

  1. Thanks! I don’t sew that much with rayon (horror stories of it shrinking like all the yucky 1980’s rayon fabric) but when I do I typically love the fit. It seems feminine without being over the top. Now I just have to get my husband away from the football games on television to take me on a Date Night 🙂
