The them this month is “Party. Now I know most people will probably make red or green dresses, or even sparkly dresses. However, I live in Brisbane where it is stinking hot at this time of year, so a party dress just has to scream summer as far as I am concerned. Most parties I go to seem to be BBQs and start in the afternoon, so a summery feel is what I want from a dress and definitely no sleeves!
It’s no secret I really like the Elisalex pattern from By Hand London and now that I have made all the necessary fit adjustments to the pattern it makes a super quick project and a great little party dress!
This time I used a gorgeous floral border print from the Alannah Hill clearance store in Melbourne. The fabric is some kind of dress weight fabric, I suspect polyester as it has no stretch at all and doesn’t crease. Great for sitting for prolonged times! I lined it in a cotton voile for added comfort.
Not much to say about the construction as I covered my adjustments in my previous Elisalex posts 1, 2 & 3. This time with the skirt, instead of the pegged in version of the pattern, I instead continued the line from the hip to the hemline to give more of a bell shape. I wanted to do this to highlight the border print.
These photos were taken on the way out to a work function, it’s a great little afternoon party/bbq dress.

Oh, I wanted to make an Elisalex for this challenge but just completely ran out of time – love your version. And, OMG didn’t know there was such a thing as an Alannah Hill clearance store!! My party dress is also a summer frock, being from NZ I’ve also had a heap of xmas BBQs to attend and immediately think summer dress when party is mentioned this time of year 🙂
