Hi everyone, I’m Elizabeth and I blog over at Sewn by Elizabeth and I’m very excited to be writing my first Monthly Stitch post! Thanks for having me.
Sewing double is the perfect theme for me this month. I’ve had a few double projects. The first is the Teach me Fashion Draped Skirt. This is an elasticated waist, no dart, figure hugging skirt. As soon as I received the skirt from the ladies at Teach Me Fashion I thought it would look amazing in a stretchy cotton sateen. I knew that sewing this pattern in a woven compared to a knit might be problematic but as the instructions recommenced either I just went with it.
I cut the first version in a size medium and it sewed up in an hour or 2. The instructions are brief but there is an accompanying YouTube tutorial for each TMF pattern if you’d like the added support. Skirt number 1 turned out beautiful! Just one small problem, I couldn’t get it past my knees! I gave it a petite friend who looks fabulous in it. For more info on my first version check out the original post.
Of course, I had to give the skirt another chance! This time with a heavy black textured knit fabric. Again I cut and made a size medium. This time it’s a perfect fit. Hurrah! If you’re planning on trying this skirt definitely go with a knit fabric!
This is my first ever tight fitting knit skirt. I love how it turned out. This style of skirt is a fantastic wardrobe staple if I can just get past the feeling of being a little bit naked in such a close fitting garment. For more details on the second version, check out my blog. Finally here’s a close up pic of the fabric so you can get an idea of the textured pattern.
Ok, how’d I do for my first post? Of course, there are more pics and detail over at my blog, but I think I covered all the absolute must haves.
