Sorbetto Variations

Sewing Double – Two flavours of Sorbetto

This is my first entry in The Monthly Stitch. I must apologise that my contribution this month is probably not the most interesting project on here. There are a couple of reasons; firstly I was on holiday for a week which cut down my sewing time considerably and secondly, having only been a dedicated seamstress since January, I only have a small stock of items that I could “double” for the “Sewing Double” theme.

In the end, I plumped for another Sorbetto Top, and added a couple of variations of my own to the pattern. I inverted the front pleat and also changed the hemline of the top so that it is high at the front and low at the back.

Here are my two versions of the top. On the left, my original which is a completely standard, by-the-pattern version and on the right, the high-low hemline variation.

The fabric is a wonderful cotton-silk blend, but I did have some difficulties with trying to make the bias binding and attaching it. Generally though I am pleased with the fit and it feels great to wear. There are more details on the project on the Steely Seamstress blog.

  1. Like the second one best with the high low hem – nice choice of fabric. Very interesting post on your blog – “Overdressed – a perspective on my wardrobe” – thats why I sew!

  2. Thanks Kat H. Sadly, my camera isn’t very good at taking pictures when the light is dim. I was rushing a bit yesterday to get the post. I’ll take some pictures in the daylight and put them on my blog – steelyseamstress.wordpress.com.

  3. Hello fellow first-entry-er 🙂
There really is no need for excuses or justification. I have been meaning to make a Sorbetto top for years now, but just kept getting distracted. Really like your modifications!

  4. Very cute! I like the idea of the high-lo hem, it really changes the appearance of the top. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen a Sorbetto with a hem like that!

(Would love to see what it looks like on, though?!)

Welcome to The Monthly Stitch! 🙂
