Like others have said, I love making and wearing dresses. They are so easy to wear and to add layers to depending on the weather. I chose the Darling Ranges dress by Megan Nielsen, my first time sewing one of her designs.
A friend gave me the fabric and although it’s a polyester (I did a burn test) it has a nice soft, silky feel and drapes beautifully. I finished the seams by overlocking and the neckline with bias binding as the pattern said. I love how tidy the binding looks compared to facings.
I made the size medium with the following alterations:
- Removed 1/2″ from top back seam for my narrow shoulders
- Added 1/2″ to each side seam at bust – this is unusual for me, I normally don’t need to add extra here
- Removed 1″ from each skirt side seam so about 4″ total, this was to reduce the fullness of the skirt to suit my figure
- Added 6″ to the length (I am 5’8″ tall)
- I didn’t put elastic in the sleeve cuff and I didn’t add the tie in the back
I love how I can add a belt and dress it up or down. I am really pleased I made this dress and have worn it lots already!
The photos are taken in the Hamilton gardens, a beautiful place to visit 🙂
This has to be one of my favourite DR dresses ever! Your finishing is beautiful too.
