Week 2 already!
The same day the week 2 challenge was announced, I had placed my first order with Deer and Doe patterns. I took it as a sign and here we are.
The pattern is Deer and Doe Reglisse which I have been wanting to try for a long time, and the fabric is a royal blue polyester, that I purchased from DK fabrics in Adelaide. it has a fabulous drape and thickness that looks like a lovely silk. I knew would be perfect for the Reglisse, and it certainly did not disappoint. I’m not normally a fan of polyester but It was a pleasure to sew with and feels absolutely amazing.
What did I think of the pattern?
I loved that Deer and Doe patterns are printed on paper as apposed to tissue, it makes them so much easier to trace off and fold back up time and time again. The instructions where aimed more toward the somewhat experienced sewer, as I found they left out some of the basics. Overall though, and it came together relatively easy in a few hours.
The only thing I didn’t particularly like was the suggested layout for cutting the fabric, there just seemed to be so much wastage, I moved the pieces around a bit still following the grain lines, and ended up using around 2 meters of fabric instead of the 3 suggested on the envelope.
Since this was my first Deer and Doe pattern, the only modification I made was to add pockets, because every dress should have pockets lol. Next time, I’ll lower the bust darts, in the photos they seem to sit a bit high. I’ll line the bodice, only because I’m not really a fan of bias, and prefer a lining, and maybe lengthen the skirt slightly.
I really like this pattern, who doesn’t love a twirly skirt? I can see this one becoming a year round staple, paired with strappy shoes in summer, and my trademark tights, flats and blazer in winter. I think I’ll be making up a whole arsenal in a variety of prints and fabrics for my wardrobe.

Gorgeous, what a brilliant colour! 🙂 I hate when patterns use bizarre suggested layouts as it makes it hard to judge how much fabric you need!
