It’s The Monthly Stitch’s first birthday in August, yay! And as you may have already seen, the challenge for August is all about birthday celebrations. Or to be precise, about one part of celebrations – cake!
Been wondering what to make? Here’s some ideas of patterns involving cake of some sort or another….
A cake-sewing inspiration post must, of course, include the Cake indie pattern label. Mainly using knit fabrics, the Cake Classic patterns are all named after types of cake.
Or if you feel like sewing for small people, there’s the Pat-A-Cake Romper pattern.
Feeling like taking the challenge in less literal way? There’s the concept of sewing ‘cake’ vs. sewing ‘frosting’ – Tasia from Sewaholic wrote a great post about this idea. (Or you could sew a piece of ‘cake’ and some ‘frosting’ to go with it for the birthday month, perhaps? 😉 )
Or you could go very literal, and sew up a cup cake.
Heck, you could even make it a practical cake, with a cake pin cushion!
So many cakes, so little time!
Whatever you make for Let Them Sew Cake month, we’d love it if you shared the recipe for your favourite cake in your post as well. Then we can all sew cake and make cake! (And eat cake as well, of course. 😉
What are you planning on making for the August challenge?

I have no fabric and no pattern but I have pinned so many cake related inspirational images hehe! I may do some real and felt cupcakes as well for decoration 🙂

Haven’t decided yet… awaiting more fabric swatches from The Fabric Store/LA! But that skirt flounce or pockets might get frankenpatterened before-hand…
