The icing on the cake

Hello again wonderful stitchers. After not quiet getting there with julys challange (it’s finished but still not photographed) I was determined to get my act together and get The August challange finished and posted in time.

And here it is…

My icing on the cake Mini Cooper Emery Dress.

There is a story behind this dress.
Back in 2005 I acquired a sad and sorry looking classic mini, my wonderful husband then spent the last 9 years slowing restoring her for me and in late July this year, it made its return to the road, and this dress is in celebration.

The Pattern: Christine Haynes Emery dress.

I have seen so many beautiful versions of this dress around, and finally jumped on the band wagon, initially I wasn’t feeling the love on this pattern, but after some wonderful advice and some minor modifications to the neckline and darts I fell in love. It’s a fantastic staple dress that perfectly showcases the fabric. I already have another 2 planned.

The fabric: Quilting cotton by Dashwood Studio

The fabric was purchased from fabric pixie. With the above story in mind I set out looking for mini inspired fabric and this fit the bill perfectly.

And there we have it, a icing on the cake Mini Cooper emery dress.

  2. I love minis. Your dress is great and so is the story behind it. I wasn’t so fond of the Emery Dress either, I’ve made a version of it but don’t think it’s my style, however it may be only a matter of modifications as you said, do perhaps it deserves a second chance. Happy travels for the mini 🙂
