What can I say, I’m lazy! For this month’s challenge, I decided to revisit the Vintage Challenge and make a new bra. This was because of necessity, my old rtw bras are rapidly dying in truly ghastly ways and my me-made ones are all in woven fabrics which look very odd under knits.
The Vera Venus pattern http://veravenus.com/patterns-for-purchase/ calls for woven fabrics, but I wondered if I could tweak it a bit an make it out of a knit. I sacrificed a too-tight skivvie for this toile; the fabric is a bit light-on for support although it sufficed for this experiment.
As for the pattern, I took off 1cm all round and fused as many of the seam lines I thought I would get away with (although the dart that is left needs a bit of work ) and ended up with a passable bra
The band at this stage had only one row of elastic and was a bit too flexible, it is a bit boring too hey?
So I sewed-in another band of elastic (tighter), found a scrap of lace and some ribbon and prettied it up .I wore it all Saturday (and it was a very loooong day) and it felt great- a wearable toile for me 🙂
