Frocktober | The Monthly Stitch

It’s time for… Dakota week!

Hey there everybody! Welcome to our second feature week for Frocktober 2014. This week, it’s all about the Dakota dress by Named.

We’ve got a fun-filled week planned for Dakota – you can sew along with me as I make up the pattern, there’s a contest for everyone who posts a completed Dakota this week, and we’ve got a great interview with the designers behind Named for you as well!

The sew-with-us series for Dakota will be kicking off tomorrow – I’ll be posting my progress on making up the pattern each day. Why not join me? It’ll be fun! (And conveniently the Dakota is available as a PDF, so if you do want to join in at the last minute, you can go and get it now.) There’s a post full of pretty Dakota dresses to get you inspired over here.

Here’s the plan for the next five days:
Day 1: Assembling and tracing the pattern and cutting out your fabric
Day 2: Sewing up the bodice and collar
Day 3: The skirt and pockets (pockets! yay!)
Day 4: Sleeves and cuffs
Day 5: Hemming, buttons, and all those finishing-off bits and pieces

Interested in taking part in the Dakota sewing contest? If you’ve made up the pattern between the start of September and the end of the Dakota week, and you haven’t blogged about it yet, you can enter it in the contest! Simply post about your creation here on The Monthly Stitch before 24:00 UTC on 18 October and make sure you categorise it as ‘Frocktober 2014’ and Frocktober-Dakota. We’ll do a round-up of all the Dakota creations at the end of Dakota week, and then the lovely designers from Named will choose their favourite, with the lucky winner receiving their choice of two Named PDF patterns! (And seriously, there’s a lot of rather gorgeous designs there to choose from. I wish I could enter….! šŸ˜‰ )

Alright, let’s get this Dakota party started!
