Spring is for the Birds

It’s my FIRST Monthly Stitch challenge! I’m so excited to be joining in on all the fun. I chose to make Tilly and The Button’s Clemence skirt for this challenge. I made the skirt for a friend last month and I loved it so much I wanted one for myself. The past three months I have been going through Tilly’s book Love at First Stitch. I only have two patterns left, but I went back to this skirt because it’s just so so great. I love it because you get to make the pattern. It also has adorable pockets and fits quite well with my style. It’s an all around very “me” skirt.

Since I already knew, without a doubt, what pattern I wanted to use for this challenge, my big obstacle was finding the right fabric. I first looked at my usual sites: Fabric.com, EmmaOneSock, Mood Fabrics. I just couldn’t find something I loved. Finally it hit me to check out A Fashionable Stitch. I can’t remember how I found Sunni, but one day I discovered her Instagram account, which then took me to her website. She has so many wonderful fabrics! After maybe one minute of searching through her fabrics I found IT, and I could hear the angels singing. The fabric is a cotton voile. I personally think it encompasses the wonderful things about spring.

As I mentioned earlier, this was my second time making this skirt. I got a bit cocky with it, but it quickly humbled me and I remembered my place as a beginner in this wonderful world of sewing. The pockets don’t line up just right and I’m still working on my invisible zippers. The waist fits me perfectly though. And, as I hoped, it’s a fantastic spring skirt.

If you’d like to read more about my Clemence skirt or more about me, I’d love for you to pop on over to my blog here!

Happy stitching and putting a bird on it!
