Gabriola&Nettie, a match made in heaven! -Indie Seperates Challenge

I found out about the Monthly Stitch last month, just in time to prepare for the contests! I’d been thinking about sewing up this summery outfit for a while but this was the perfect kick in the butt to get started.

I used the Nettie body suit pattern from Closet Case Files, and the Gabriola Skirt from Sewaholic. The Gabriola skirt was new to me, I had never sewn a Sewaholic pattern but heard they fit pear shapes well (like myself) and was eager to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find the size 8 is fit for my exact measurements, so no adjustments there! The only thing I changed (because I did not read the instructions thoroughly) was the waistband closure. I used a skirt hook and eye instead of the button closure suggested. The zipper I used is an 18cm zipper I had in my stash that matched the green background perfectly
I used a tropical print rayon found at Fabricland for this skirt. I originally had purchased a satin, but I found this on sale in the depths of winter and I couldn’t pass up the cheery, bright print that reminded me of warmer days!

The Nettie pattern is something I have sewn up a few times by now, but this is my first body suit. I used some leftover supplex that I had in my stash from a previous project. It’s a classic wardrobe staple that will get a lot of wear.

The high neck/medium back is my go-to for the Nettie pattern (mostly because you can still wear a bra with it) The high neck is great to show off statement necklaces, and the low back is very elegant. I cut a cropped sleeve for this one, longer than the short sleeve yet shorter than the 3/4 length, this length reminds me of a ballet leotard and I think it’s pretty. My shoulders are large (not broad, if this makes sense) so I’d usually make the sleeve and armhole a bit bigger but I opted not to for this version because of how stretchy the supplex is. Turns out I should have done that here too! There are some fabric wrinkles underneath the arms that show its too small in the arms

The amount of fabric volume in the skirt is fantastic, it flutters so nicely when I walk, and doesn’t restrict my steps.
