Foxglove Times Two!

Hello again! I’m back for my second and final post this month! I’m keeping it all in the family with another pattern from Selvage Designs. This time the Foxglove tank!

The pattern is meant for knits or wovens, so I decided to try one of each. I cut a size 4 for both based on the measurements, but as you can see the fit is completely different between the two. I cut the striped one first and it was so long I took a little length off when I cut the woven one (I think about an inch in the front and 2-3 inches in the back).

For my first version I used a striped jersey knit from Girl Charlee. I serged the inner seams and used knit strips as binding. I used a double needle to finish everything off. All of the binding turned out well except the back of the neckline is a little wonky where I should have stretched the binding a little more.

For my second version, I used a vintage sheet that I had from my grandma. I had to piece it together to have enough fabric, but luckily the Foxglove pattern calls for that anyway. The flower pattern ended up matching up in the back but not in the front. I still think it works. I also finally put my bias tape maker to use (that I got for Christmas…!) to make the bias tape for the neckline and arms. This was my first time doing a bias tape binding this way and I love how it turned out. You can see the yellow through the fabric, but not in a bad way. I used her clean finish technique on the front, back, and shoulder seams, and added some color to get some nice topstitching. I used french seams on the side seams and a narrow hem at the bottom. I just can’t get over how nice the inside looks when there are no visible seams. Maybe I’m finally getting over my fear of wovens…. maybe 😉

I also just got an early birthday present from my boyfriend today (and named her Charlotte!!) so I thought I’d let her help me show off the two tanks side by side 🙂

There you have it! One pattern, two takes!

Thank you ladies so much for this month! The inspiration has been endless. 😀

I blog over at Life by Ky… come stop by for more detail shots and more about Charlotte (my new love!) 🙂

Until next time,
