Vintage Style Fabric from Mood

I’m sharing a charming party dress that I made featuring this retro fabric purchased from Mood!

“It’s silk chiffon with a vintage flare. Filled with a clustered floral print in shades of bright violet, fuchsia, ivory and black, this perky product is perfect for the Spring and Summer seasons.”

My Dress:
I wore this vintage inspired party dress to my daughter’s bridal shower. It’s made from silk chiffon and  poly charmeuse. It turned out rather splendidly, if I do say SEW myself! I made a muslin to check the bodice, then made slight alterations to Butterick pattern 6049.

Then I did a “slow sew” because I was working with slippery fabric and wanted it to turn out nicely. I used my regular sewing machine and the serger in tandem to neatly finish and hem all seams.

I let it hang overnight so that the bottom of the dress would relax into it’s final shape, which was quite a sight to see! Then I trimmed and hemmed it by measuring the charmeuse from the floor up, then tackled the chiffon.

Invisible zipper and free overlay below waist. Tricky but worth it.

I folded the center back edge of the silk overskirt to the seam line of the zipper. I trimmed it and serged the raw edge before sewing it to the bodice and then carefully sewed in the invisible zipper. Then I sewed the back seam of the lining and the back seam of the chiffon to the end of the zipper.
