A Vintage Jacket for Fall

Hi All! For this month’s challenge, I made Simplicity 1319, a 1950s vintage style jacket.

This is actually the second time I made this pattern. The first time was last year for Halloween. I was going as “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” in that painting by Vermeer.

Me last year in this same pattern.

This time, though, I wanted to do a nicer job and make a jacket that I’d want to wear on days other than Halloween. I used a coating wool fabric that I had leftover from a coat project I made a few years ago. I also lined the inside with a bubblegum pink poly satin fabric I picked up at Hancock Fabrics.

I cut out the size 6 as this jacket is very baggy. I also added four inches to the length of the jacket. I love that this jacket features 3/4″ sleeves. The flowery pom pom embellishment is also a DIY project. To make, cut multiple layers of tulle fabric into the shape of squares. Secure all of the layers together with a tack in the middle. Fold into a quarter square and then curve the sides. Unfold and then twist the layers around and around and around until you get a poofy pom pom shape. If those directions are confusing and you’d like to know how to make this, just comment below and I’ll make a blog post on it. All in all, I’m quite pleased with how this jacket turned out and I’m excited to get a little bit more wear out of this version.
