Hi everyone. I love this month’s challenge and have been enjoying your posts so far which give me lots of inspiration.
Tiered skirts and dresses are so hot right now, and you can see this trend in recent Fall/Winter 16/17 shows repeatedly showcased on Elie Saab, Erdem, Valentino or Chanel. This skirt is an easy introduction to sew and wear this trend as it’s not too over the top, but still adds a bit of glam to the whole outfit.
I did not use commercial pattern. A quick instruction of how I ‘drafted’ it is on my blog.
The material is a beautiful guipure lace in scarlet red which has been sitting around in my stash for quite a long time now. If you’re keen to sew this style, I would suggest to sew with lace, drapery fabric such as silk, crepe or some certain types of organza which are not so stiff. I wouldn’t recommend cotton or similar materials because it may give the whole outfit an outdated look.
Thank you for reading 🙂

Elie Saab dresses are so beautiful! Tempted on trying lace again. You are right about choosing the correct lining. I made a broderie anglaise skirt with cotton and given the structure it stuck out too much so I didn’t like wearing it! It’s a joy to sew something pretty like this.
