Moji pants – ONE pattern made TWICE!

I could probably write a book about my trials and errors in pant making. I really don’t think that any other sewn garment made me that upset while making and this happy when I am done with it… and it actually fits!!! Those who have tried their best at making pants will understand. Fit, grain, fabric weight and pattern – all matters equally when you make pants, don’t underestimate one or the other. I have made fitted, cigarette, harem, palazzo, sporty and skinny pants and this time I decided to try my hand at making a pair, or TWO, of these comfy Moji pants!

Let’s start with the Linen Moji:

Pattern: Moji pants, grab yours here. I really like the pattern: simple, easy, yet comes out looking good. You just have to watch what time of fabric you’re choosing – that is the key. I had my reservations towards using grommets and installing them, but my lovely husband agreed to help! By the way, you can get those grommets at Wal-mart for couple of dollars.

Time: Just as promised, it takes about 3 hrs to make a pair. With the second pair it only took about 2 hrs, since I already knew what am I doing and serger is also a faster option of sewing

Fabric: sad thing about this one, recently I visited last Hancock fabric store here in Vegas, and it had closing sale, so with no further intent of returning I stocked myself with beautiful additions to my fabric stash, including this light-medium weight linen! Love the look of this fabric.

Remarks: I did not make any changes at all, apart from doing the waistband my way 🙂 the final result looks the same but the process is simpler. I also decided to do a little embroidery while attaching pockets to the pant legs, just to make sure that it lays flat and also looks interesting, has an interesting touch to it. I used the same embroidery stitch on the bottom cuffs.

Additions: linen and denim combination are so on trend right now, therefore I decided to compliment these pants with floral/denim singlet that was also made by me during one of TheMonthlyStitch challenges “Floral Power”.  Read more about it and get your pattern here.

Continuing with Sporty Moji:

Fabric: I spotted this fabric at Wal-mart as well. It has medium weight, suede/peach skin feel to it and a slight stretch. I love the overall look, but I think this fabric has to be worn a little, to make sure that it softens up a little.

Remarks: No changes, apart from the waistband. Note to myself: I probably should have made this pair a little tighter, since fabric has a stretch. Otherwise, I have not used the advantage of the fabric in this pattern. I used serger to create the waistband string and keep it stretchy.

I am very happy with both of these makes, the pattern is definitely a keeper and I am happy to try some more of Indie Pattern companies – my summer pants are ready for the public! Yey!
