Hello everyone,
My last ever entry into 2016 IPM! And what a month it has been. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges set this year. This one more so, because I got to really look through all those pins on my Pinterest boards and get to choose something I could make using my stash items.
This particular outfit came about because I love nautical stripes . Its really a combo of these 2 Pins……

Dress
I didnt make a muslin because I knew exactly how I would create the dress. Here is the equation I used:
{Moneta Bodice + Lady Skater dress front scoop neckline} + { Lady Skater skirt lengthened to 39″ + Moneta pockets} = this dress :-). Simples!
Well actually it’s simple if you dont factor in the power mesh bodice lining. I used that to create a clean finished neck and armhole. Worth the extra hassle. I used a tutorial available on the Colette Patterns website. Its a very nice finish- no visible stitching and more importantly, no gaping. I stabilised the waist with clear elastic. The fabric had been in my stash for so long I cant recall where I bought it.
Jacket
Since I had no red denim in my stash to make a denim jacket, I went for my all time favourite Morris blazer in bright nautical red ponte fabric. No adjustments necessary as Grainline Studio patterns seem to have been drafted specially for me – I am lucky there. Instructions are also well written and easy to follow. I have made this blazer twice already so it was a super quick make. Pictures….

Power mesh bodice lining. I love this finish.
I love this outfit. Its bold and dramatic. I also love that, considering how quick it was to sew up, it makes me feel like I slayed it:-).
All in all this RTW Copy has been my favourite challenge. Its great to start off with an outfit/look then search through my stash to create it. I think that will be my approach in future.
Thank you for reading! And thanks to Kat and Mel for running the challenges.
Peace and love

Wow looks amazing! Stripes & red are such a striking combo. I’m interested in how you lined the bodice with the powermesh, it’s a really nice finish.

I LOVE the fit on grainline patterns too – I can always make one of Jen’s patterns without have to do any adjustments. Great outfit.

Thank you! The pattern matching was easier than I thought because i cut one skirt panel then laid it over fabric matching the stripe to cut the other. Worked a treat.
