IPM2017 Sponsor Spotlight: Hawes & Freer

Hawes & Freer are our favourite New Zealand based online sewing store and they are always happy to sponsor Indie Pattern Month with exciting quality prizes that we are almost too jealous to give away! Mel caught up with Marketing & Communications Assistant Franchelle to check out their amazing new website and see what fabric and sewing tool goodies they have to offer.

Hi everyone!

For those of you who don’t know us, we are Hawes & Freer. We are a small textiles & trimmings company that provides quality product for the New Zealand fashion and film industries, students, keen home sewers and fashion lovers. Our warehouse is based in Auckland, where we have a small but knowledgeable team to help people through their fashion and textile journey.

We have recently relaunched our website, to give you, the home sewer in mind, a positive experience when purchasing fabrics and other sewing products. We like to view ourselves as a ‘one stop shop’, where you can purchase everything you need to create a garment.

The products we offer cover fabrics, fusing’s (interlining/interfacing), linings, components such as shoulder pads, waist banding and undercollar felt, as well as, zips and sewing tools from Merchant & Mills. However, our key focus is on providing a variety of high quality fabrics to everyone – if you haven’t found our silk range yet, you are in for a treat!

Our favourite products at the moments:

  • Our silk satin you cannot go past! We are lucky to source our silk from one of China’s oldest silk regions, Jiangsu. This region is based along the historic Silk Road and is well known for producing high quality silk products.

  • Our lightweight and heavyweight moleskin, which is 100% cotton – it also has a suede-like appearance. We love our moleskin so much that we stock it in two different weights. Whether you want to create a trans-seasonal coat or a structured skirt, the choice is yours!

  • Lastly, to fit in with the theme of Indie Pattern Month, we have our two top products for working with patterns. These are the Merchant & Mills Studio 9” Scissors, which are specifically for cutting paper and because of their length, it makes it easier to cut in a straight line. We also recommend the Merchant & Mills Spanish Lace Pins, these are small pins with a red tip to pin down your patterns to the fabric.

If you want to stay tuned with Hawes & Freer and keep up to date with new products and industry news, follow us on Facebook and Instagram and sign up to our newsletter.

Oh my those scissors are amazing and we are super lucky to have a pair to give away as a prize. I hope you’ve all entered (or a furiously sewing to enter) New to Me for your chance to enjoy cutting out your next sewing project with brand new scissors. If you are NZ based and you haven’t bought from H&F before…what are you waiting for?!
