These were the only photos I managed to take because it was raining! I love the collar of the Megan Nielsen Banksia Top. You press self fabric bias tape and bind the inner neckline with that. I used medium weigh interfacing for the collar as floppy collars are annoying in windy weather. Cotton lawn works well for this blouse too as it’s nice and light, not too boxy. I made my size according to the measurements chart and it fit correctly, fairly close fitting at the bust and cap sleeves, I would say use a FBA if in doubt. I chose to make a faux placket so there’s no pull on any buttonholes and it’s quicker to make! A popover shirt and a low v neck peter pan – pretty and practical. The dramatic collar works best with dainty prints or plain fabric, in my opinion.
I was after a loose fitting blouse that is easy to construct, and more formal than the Dove blouse pattern I previously tried in the summer (I couldn’t choose the right fabric for that one). I think this top would be smart with the collar and without the placket too. I chose cream-shade faux horn buttons x 5 and sewed the square into the bottom of the placket as suggested. For blouses, I think you can’t go wrong with ditsy florals, more fun to sew than plain colour!
I like to pick out the colours in the print and wear it with a matching bottom / jacket.
