Since I tend to wear a plain skirt or trousers, sewing tops is more fun for me. I made a jumper, a blouse and a jacket this month for the less cold weather. Itch to Stitch Hvar Jacket – I bought both the ‘tweed’ suiting (it’s not wooly) and the viscose second-hand new. I wanted a grey jacket and it was the perfect weight for it, suitable drape and durable fabric. I added decorative buttons.
Itch to Stitch Irena Knit Top – The knit top is designed to wear over a shirt or camisole. You can use any fabric with 100% stretch, I think it looks best in sweater knits. The cross over is a little tricky but I found using a sweater knit is ideal as you can press and steam it flat nicely to avoid any drag lines, I also zigzagged around the edges to keep it crisp.
And then the blouse! I used my 2018 PDF Club voucher on the Susie Blouse as I love pretty much any pattern with a pretty collar. The PDF Club is £5 for a year’s membership with a free pattern. Sew Over It patterns have quite a vintagey English rose look to them. I thought this top would be great for work and it looks nice in fabrics that you don’t have to iron so much like crepes/polyester. I bought this floral cotton lawn? in Goldhawk Road in London.
Really happy with this month’s sewing because of the wear-ability, I only had a couple of duds which were knit-fabric projects (OK, but I won’t wear them so don’t know why I made them just to ‘use up’ a pattern/fabric – I am choosing better this year and sticking to mainly wovens!).
