Amnesty Month – Flora And Fauna (or Put A Bird On It)

I’ve never written an Amnesty post before but I felt I ought to because I’ve finally used up my flamingo fabric that has been in my stash for nearly two years! This was a ridiculously expensive cotton lawn that I bought from Sew Over It. Although they’ve stopped selling it it is still available to buy in some places. In the interest of multi-tasking, this is also May’s Sew My Style – the Myosotis dress by Deer and Doe.

I know I have my eyes closed in this photo but it was the best of a bad bunch!

This is a bit of a style departure for me. I don’t wear many dresses, especially dresses with gathered waists covered in flamingos! However, I have to say, I really liked wearing it. It was a very hot day and the dress was perfect for warm weather – so light and breezy! It’s supposed to be a loose fit and it is a little voluminous around the waist. I decided to make an optional belt to cinch in my waist if I fancied it. The belt came from Tilly and the Button’s book ‘Love at First Stitch’.

The belt needs adjusting to make it a bit tighter but I’ll save that for later. I like it both with and without the belt so I’ll wear it sometimes but not always!

There’s a little more info on my blog over at Appleby Makes.
