This dress has been on my radar to make for absolutely ages. I wanted to make it while I was still pregnant and hack it to be empire line so that it would work with my expanding belly, but never got around to completing it. I finally had the impetus to get it done for my graduation when I realised that I didn’t have anything sufficiently ‘formal’ to wear which would also accommodate breastfeeding a baby.
There is a full write up on my blog- Naomi Sews, but the pattern is the Sew Over It Penny Dress, with the bodice shortened to empire line. I used a lovely cotton lawn from Minerva Crafts, but it was a little bit too translucent, so I underlined all the bodice pieces, and created a separate underskirt to wear instead of lining the skirt.
I’m really proud of how it turned out, and though the weather means that I’m not going to get much more wear out of it this year, I’m sure that I will enjoy swishing around in it next summer.

What a lovely swishy dress! The underskirt and underlining works really well. I like your snaps too, I didn’t realise they weren’t buttons!
