Hello monthly stitchers! Thanks so much to the team for hosting Indie pattern month again, I’m really excited that it’s back again. While the other themes that have been held over the years have been super fun, its hard to beat a gorgeous dress really, so this is such a lovely theme to kick off with.
With this make I’ve returned to an old pattern that was everywhere in the blogosphere at one point and I’ve already made several versions of, a couple of versions here and here. It is of course the By Hand London Anna dress. Despite having made this dress a number of times, I have never made the V-necked version so it was nice to try something new while still in the realm of the familiar.
For this make I used an old sheet that I’d found in a charity shop a couple of years ago and I made a number of alterations to the pattern. I always feel like the Anna bodice is a bit short on me, I have quite a long torso, so I lengthened this one by about 5cm. It may have been a cm too much but I’m not going to get too picky about it. With my last Anna dress I had made some alterations to adjust for gaping in the back, following this tutorial by Ginger makes, which I did again this time. I also decided to add a pleated skirt for a slightly different look and while the calculations behind pleats always defeat me (and I’m usually good at maths!), I got there in the end and really like the finished look. Despite the pleats, this was really a very quick and satisfying make.
While it’s always lovely to get a new pattern and try out new things there is something wonderful about returning to a TNT pattern. For more details, pictures and other makes, please check out my blog. And I’ll leave you with a crazy hair out-take!

Anna is such a great dress pattern! Great choice. And I love that you paired it with a pleated skirt. I will be lazy and use the skirt from the zeena pattern if I make this combo at some point.

Thank you. That’s a good idea, I do actually have the zeena dress but I found it sat slightly oddly on me.

I love that you made it from a sheet! And the fit looks great!

Thank you. It’s great to recycle where we can, isn’t it.

Looks like you have similar problems to me with this dress on the torso length side and back being too wide; I think your finished one was more successful than mine though.

I’m sorry you’re not keen on your version. I love this pattern.

Every pattern (probably) will have those who it suits well and those it doesn’t. I’m glad it works for you

Who would have know your beautiful dress was once a bedsheet! The bodice fits beautifully and I like the v-neck version very much on you.

Thank you, I can’t believe this is the first time I tried this neckline, I really like it.

I really like that floral print! I doesn’t look like a bedsheet at all. 🙂

Thanks. It was a great find.

Lovely dress! Really like that fabric, too. Charity shop fabric is the best – wish they’d accept it up here.

Thanks. The fabric is just an old sheet, I guess it’s rare to find ones so highly patterned though.
