Announcing Octobers Challenge!

As the last of your amazing capes roll in and we start chatting about how to interpret the Vintage Challenge for September it’s time we announced October’s challenge!

The origins of “Frocktoberfest” are shrouded in mystery…ok, not really, but as much as I’d love to believe the Wikipedia entry that claims is all started in New Zealand, I’m not so sure…

What we do know is that every October we have an excuse to make and wear pretty dresses and how could The Monthly Stitch ignore such an important (and girlie) excuse?

Deer and Doe Reglisse

It gets better because this challenge is really fun to interpret!

Are you going to sew nothing but dresses all Frocktober long (I AM!) or just one super AMAZING dress?

By Hand London Anna

Victory Patterns Anouk

How about picking one pattern to make as many versions as you can? Do you intend to only wear you-made-dresses for the whole month?

Vogue 1317 Chado Ralph Rucci

Butterick 5918

You could pull out some of your dresses that you hardly ever wear or have set aside for re-hemming/alternations and finally get them sorted?

Papercut Midsummer’s Night Dream

Cake Patterns
Tiramisu
.

Maybe you’d like to go op-shop crazy, see how many dresses you can “save”? Perhaps there are a few in your UFO pile that also need “saving”?

Frocktober is also linked to several charities, you could investigate how you can show your support through them.

McCall’s 6789

So many options – How are you going to challenge yourself in October for Frocktober?

PS: Have you checked out the Collective contributors page recently? It’s updated and looking amazing! Want to get on there yourself? After your first post goes live we’ll contact you for details. Already posted and not received an email? Contact us themonthlystitch [at] gmail [dot] com and we’ll get it sorted.

  3. Alas, I will not be able to be in this due to taking off on a road trip (holdiday) for three weeks in October. Bugger. As I have a stack of them in my stash.

Can’t wait to see what you all make on my return. But i am doing the vintage challenge.
