Hs Handcrafts Mimi blouse

Let them fly!

Hi there monthly stitchers! I am so pleased to be able to share my latest make with you! OVer Christmas I took a visit to Cool Crafting in Kirby Lonsdale – a really cute craft shop in Northern England. My granny let me choode one piece of fabric as my Christmas present so I came away with this gorgeous cotton poplin with swallows on it. When I got home I immediately rushed it into the wash and ironed it. Just as I was about to stash it I remembered this months challenge and thought twice about adding it to the shelves and shelves of fabric stacked up neatly and instead I thought I would let the swallows fly free! I knew immediately what it had to be. It wasn’t until I got home and frantically flipped through the book to find the pattern that I realised exactly why that was what I needed to make…something

I knew immediately what it had to be. A Mimi blouse. It wasn’t until I frantically flipped through my Tilly and the buttons Love at first stisch book though that I realised exactly why that was what I needed to make…something look familiar?

I knew how much I loved this pattern and had been looking forward to making it so I decided to take it slow. It really paid off as I am so pleased with how it turned out, the corners are sharp the seams are straight and the hems are even. I even managed to add some extra touches – like the buttons on the sleeves, I think they look really great at the join of the two pleats. And I even got to use my favourite sewing technique of all – gathers!

I do really love this blouse and can see myself making some more – I had planned another straight away in a quilting cotton I already have but I think anything with less drape than this poplin would be too stiff…what a shame I might have to go fabric shopping after all!
