A very oversized shirt dress

Indie Pattern Month already? This last year has flown by!

My offering for week one’s Dresses challenge is the Ralph Pink Sahara Shirtdress.

I had originally planned to make it in time for the #sewtogetherforsummer Instagram challenge but life got in the way and I knew I’d never make it in time. So I was really happy I was able to make it in time to submit for IPM!

This shirtdress is pretty much unlike any other shirtdress pattern I’ve come across. It’s super duper oversized and designed to be belted to give it some shape. It’s a beginners pattern and easy to make up although I chose a really slippery fabric for my version which made things a little trickier. Because it’s such a loose style, there are literally no fit issues to be had with this dress! It definitely makes life a little easier!

I made mine out of a fine satin with big flowers printed all over it. It’s really light and floaty which I felt was needed in a garment where I knew there’d be a lot of excess fabric!

The instructions were mostly accurate for once! Or at least the most accurate Ralph Pink instructions I’ve used so far. There were just a few errors in the diagrams this time. (You can see my previous problems with other Ralph Pink patterns here and here).

All in all I’m quite happy with this dress. It’s unusual and I like that! It’s a great weight for these hot summer days too!

I’d love to try a version in a thin white cotton next!
