Can I just start off by saying that I love this dress! OK. So when Kat and Mel announced the themes I was pleased to see that dresses were in Week 1. It didn’t take me long at all to decide on which indie pattern dress to make – Giselle by Kate and Rose Patterns.
I have made 3 of them before but none in a rayon challis fabric. The fabric is irresistibly soft and I very nearly made pyjamas with it. It also gets double points for stash busting as it has been in the stash since Feb 2016 :-).
Since I have sewn this before fitting was not an issue. I made the version with the under bust yoke but sleeveless. The sleeves and neckline were finished with cotton bias binding.
This is a quick dress to sew up. The skirt panels are basically rectangles that are gathered and sewn together. I always add in seam pockets to this pattern as it comes without pockets and that’s my only complaint (a very minor one 🙂). I finished my seams with the overlocker.
Its a loose fit easy to wear dress. Very swishy and its one of those dresses that always has me on my best posture. You know the sort of dress you feel like you are letting it down if you slouch or dont stand proud :-).

Rayon maxi, perfect swishiness and added pockets — sounds great! You look fab, as usual, and you’ve reminded me that I’ve really got to try the Giselle at some point, hopefully soon 🙂

What a beautiful dress – I love the neckline in particular. I love maxi dresses, but I always hold back on making one – never sure where I’d feel right wearing one though. Do you think they work as everyday wear?

Thank you! Yes, I think they do work as everyday wear. Mine are everyday wear – not really for special occasions. The pattern also has a shorter knee length version if maxi feels too much. Definitely try it because it doesnt have a zip or buttons so its a quick make that wont take too much time. xxx

Love the dress. The fabric looks so soft and flowy. I love that you added pockets. They should be in all patterns. I’m a pocket girl as well.
