Indie Summertime Sewing

The summertime outfit that almost happened. That’s what I’m calling this one. 🙂 I have about a million things in my sewing queue, but I decided to take a fresh look at my pattern stash for this challenge! I was going for the perfect, simple summertime outfit (for me, anyway). I live in tanks and lightweight sweaters in the summer, so this combo seemed like a win all around.

Well I’ll tell you first and foremost that the shorts didn’t happen… things got a little busy this week in a really good way 🙂 then I tried to quickly finish them earlier today and had to stop because my mind wasn’t in it. The rest still turned out, though!

I started with the Ella Top, which I downloaded last year at the same time as the Chi Town Chinos. I thought they would go together perfectly back then, and still do now. The top came together fairly quickly and nicely (I love all of the clean finishing techniques). I’ll definitely size down next time. I made a small based on my measurements, but the neckline and arms fall a little too low for my taste. Not saying it won’t get plenty of wear 😉

For the shirt, I used this rust colored cotton lawn from Cali Fabrics. It was really easy to work with and the color will be perfect to transition into Fall.

Next up, the Julia Cardigan! This one I got back in 2015 in a pattern bundle. I loved it back then and I’m so glad I finally got around to making it. I used the “no-hem doubled over” version and it’s such a clean finish, especially with this lightweight rayon jersey (also from Cali Fabrics) that would otherwise be a huge pain to hem.

The short sleeve version, especially in this lightweight fabric, is perfect for cool summer evenings. Pretty sure I’ll be living in this one from here on out. 🙂

(and yes, Mr. Finny always has to join in the photo-taking… such a ham) 🙂

Last but not least, who wants to walk around in the summer with a giant purse!? Definitely not me. I used this challenge as motivation to sew up the Pixie Wallet that I’ve had fabric cut for since last September.

This pattern is a great way to use up scraps and end up with a very useful little wallet at the same time. For this one, I used a leftover light green fabric from my 2015 Halloween costume and this beautiful Spoonflower floral that I originally bought to make bridal shower favors last year. I’m also using this floral for the pockets of my Chi Town Chinos 😀 so once those are done my wallet will match my shorts 😉

Thanks again for the wonderful month of inspiration. It’s always so much fun to follow along!

Until next time,

Ky
